ISSUE 134 IS NOW LIVE!

Welcome to issue 134 of Boughton's Coffee House.
With spring on the way and Britain currently
minimising – and indeed ending – Covid restrictions, for the first time in a long time we find ourselves feeling tentatively optimistic about what is round the corner in coffee and wider hospitality.

Events have started back in earnest with London Coffee Festival taking place at the end of the month, and the calendar is filling up for the year ahead. In our feature – Game on – we find out about the welcome return of the SCA competitions, as well as getting a closer look at the innovative La Cimbali M200 machine that will be used throughout the comps.

Beyond events – and indeed the ever-increasing supply chain challenges – there is a sense of normality on the high street... and for some that can also bring opportunity. In Action Plan – Small change – we find out about the little things that can make a big difference to time and service quality, while Post-pandemic working delves into how coffee houses can embrace the new influx of flexible workers. Then in our main feature – The perfect fit –we look at some venues, including climbing walls, barbers and bike shops, where the coffee may be a secondary element on paper, but it nonetheless adds a fruitful profit margin to the operation.
Also in this issue we take a timely look at tea; the ESTA report on some of 2022’s biggest trends in tea to add to your offering, while our grower feature sees us visit Tumoi Tea in Kenya to discover the benefits of purple tea as well as their inspirational setup.

Lastly, with temperatures looking increasingly likely to have a huge impact on the availability of arabica in the years to come, we investigate whether it’s time to look at robusta. There are certainly some much-improved products out there! We hope you enjoy the issue.
